Leicester City Women .

Chorley Ladies winless run in the FAWPL League Cup Competition continued on Sunday in a 5-1 home defeat , to their higher division FAWPL opponents Leicester City Women .

A closer look at all the results from the Determining Round , show that of all the six ties involving Northern Division One Teams , playing against higher placed FAWPL Teams , only Liverpool Feds came through with a tremendous 2-0 away win at Wolverhampton Wanderers !

Leicester City moved the ball about quicker , were more decisive in their movement and thoroughly deserved their victory into the next round . However , despite our loss , there was much to enthuse about within our own performance , against a side who will be pushing for Women's Super League Football come the end of this season , having finished third in their table last year . Indeed but for two late goals from the Foxes , when we were pushing forward , a 3-1 score line would have been a much fairer end result , as our team matched our visitors in the tricky wet conditions . A place in the FAWPL Plate Competition now awaits Chorley , probably to be played on September 24th .

Well done to new signing Laura Walker on scoring her first goal for our club , placing her well struck penalty past Serena Clarke , after hard working Lisa Topping had been brought down in the box . Making her full debut as Chorley Goal Keeper was new signing Meghan Pope , who's only previous appearance had been in the pre season Friendly versus Accrington Girls and Ladies on August 13th . The Players / Supporters Player of the Match Award deservedly went to Lisa Topping and the Opposition Award to Rachel Wood , her second recognition from this seasons opponents in the three games played so far this season !

Jennifer King

Everyone at Chorley Ladies bids a fond farewell to Jen King , who played her last game for us on Sunday,  as she  will be moving over to America later in the year.

Jen made a massive impact at our club , making her substitute debut in the 4-0 home win over Tranmere Rovers on August 23rd 2015 . Our Scottish U.19's Youth International broke into the Scotland Squad during 2007 under Coach Tony Gervaise . By 2008 , she was playing in the Euro Group Fixtures in Lausanne , Switzerland under Head Coach Richard Wilson and remained in the Scottish Squad for the 2008 Euro Championship Finals held in France during July . Our personal records and programmes show that the Team Captain at that time was none other then Kim Little !

Defeats to Sweden ( 1-2 ) , England ( 1-3 ) and Germany ( 0-7 ) , who were the then reigning champions , meant that they could not get out of Group B in the eight team Tournament and Italy would go on to win the Competition . However , to play at such a lucrative Tournament is without any doubt a massive achievement and Jen should be very proud to have played at such a high level within Women's Football .

All in all , Jen made 41 Starts for Chorley Ladies , plus 4 Playing Subs , giving her a total of 45 Appearances . She scored a total of four goals , all in matches played at home :

27.09.15  Tranmere Rovers     :      Plate Preliminary Round     :    Won  2 - 1

18.10.15  Bury Girls & Ladies  :      Lancashire County Cup 2    :   Won 10 - 0

16.10.16  Chester - le - Street :     FAWPL Northern Div. One   :    Won 3 - 1

27.08.17  Hull City                   :     FAWPL Northern Div. One   :   Lost  2 - 4

During her stay with us , Jen also played in three Pre Season Friendlies , including the Prescott Shield victory over Huddersfield Town and she received three Players of the Match Awards from the Supporters / Players Voting System last season .

A huge void is now left in the Chorley Ladies Squad , but we all wish our former Hamilton Academical Defender all the very best for the future .

Model Players

Although it may be very early in the season , a mention must be made to all the clubs Substitutes named so far for our three opening games , who are waiting patiently on the touchline .

In particular , Vicky Coope with 212 Appearances to her credit , matched only by scoring 175 Goals and Saskia Bowes with 104 Appearances , have always been 100% behind the starting eleven selected by our Management for the early matches played . Both these quality players would have the ability to walk into any Women's Football Team at this said level , but they have just got on with it without any moaning or discontent , showing their immense loyalty to the club .  Vicky and Saskia deserve the utmost credit for the way they have conducted themselves , encouraging those playing and getting behind the team at all times . Such players form the basis of any successful , progressive club and here at Chorley Ladies F.C. we are blessed to have such model players within our club .

Previous Meetings ...... Barnsley Ladies F.C.

Just the one meeting to write about this week as we make the 76 mile journey along the M62 and M1 to our opponents Barnsley Ladies . In only what was our third showing in the F.A. Women's Cup , we met the " Terrier " Ladies in the Extra Preliminary Round at Charnock on Sunday September 10th 2000 * . With no goals scored at half time , the game kicked into life in the second period , but sadly for Chorley our visitors from South Yorkshire took a 3-0 lead with a stunning hat trick scored by Stacey Watson on 52 , 75 and 88 minutes . Barnsley would go on to beat Windscale 1-0 at home in the Preliminary Round ( Sept 24th ) before losing at Irongate to PNE Women 4-2 on October 29th in the First Round Proper .

* Note that the date of this Sundays game , falls on the same date as the one and only previous encounter in 2000 !

Barnsley Ladies have followed a very similar progress pattern to Chorley Ladies , in as much as they have spent many years in their own Regional League ( North East ) before gaining promotion with a League and Cup Double at the end of last season , albeit on Goal Difference from Runners Up Norton and Stockton Ancients . Barnsley were also beaten Finalists in their County Cup ( Sheffield & Hallamshire F.A. ) losing narrowly to our old rivals Huddersfield Town 2-1 .  Recent promoted clubs from the N.E.W.R.F.L. include Brighouse Town in 2015-16 , Hull City in 2014-15 , Norton & Stockton Ancients in 2013-14 , Chester le Street in 2012-13 , Sheffield United Community in 2011-12 and Huddersfield Town in 2010-11 ..... all worthy opponents indeed !

Good Luck to all our Players and Management for the clubs first away game of the 2017-18 season .
