Barnsley Ladies  0  Chorley Ladies  0

Chorley Ladies were rewarded with a hard earned point at newly promoted Barnsley last Sunday in a much changed side that saw full debuts awarded to Maddy Cullin and Karis Harrison . Substitute debut's were also given to Emily Yeoman (68 min) and Ezzia Smith (72 min) with Goal Keeper Katherine Ormerod being an unused substitute in a youthful looking Chorley squad .

Making a solid return to the centre of defence was Saskia Bowes , playing alongside Club Captain Janet Mitchell , who completed her 270th Appearance for our team . Also returning to the starting X1 was Vicky Coope , who had been a playing substitute in the opening three games of the new campaign .

Sunday's " clean sheet " at Barnsley was the first time we had kept out the opposition in a league game since our 1-0 victory at Leeds on December 4th 2016 . To find our last involvement in a 0-0 draw , we must go back even further to January 25th 2014 , for the home league game versus Tranmere Rovers . This was also the first league point that we have collected on our travels when wearing the very smart white , black and purple away kit !

In only her first full appearance for the team this season , Saskia Bowes was jointly voted Players Player of the Match with Janet Michell , who deservedly collected her third Award from just four games played . The Supporters Player of the Match was won by Saskia Bowes , showing just what this clubs supporters think of her and her first such Award since November 13th last year , from our 1-1 draw at Tranmere Rovers . The Opposition Player of the Match Award went to Laura Walker , her first Award since signing in the summer from Fylde Ladies .

The Lancashire County Women's Cup .

This Sunday ( September 17th ) Chorley Ladies will play host to Haslingden Ladies in the First Round of the Lancashire County Cup , which first began in season 1994-95 , following the earlier take over of the Women's Football Association by the Football Association .

Unlike the F.A. Women's Cup or the FAWPL  League Cup , the County Cup provides Chorley with a realistic chance of silverware , with just Blackburn Rovers and Fylde Ladies competing from a league higher then ourselves .  Bolton Wanderers and Morecambe from our division will also hold the same aspirations , although this years First Round Draw has seen them paired together for the tie of the round so far .

Our game versus Haslingden , who are placed five divisions below Chorley in the Women's Football Pyramid , will be our 25th in the competition , having won 8 , lost 14 and receiving two Walk Overs . We were beaten Finalists in 2000-01 , losing to Blackpool Wren Rovers and have been involved in two Semi Finals , with one win and one loss .

The biggest victory dates back to September 1999 when we recorded a home 14-0 win over Bridge Ladies ( of Rochdale ) , who were just one division below us at that time . Nicola Ainscough with four goals and a hat-trick each from Debbie Kirkman & Sharon Schofield causing the biggest damage in the soaking wet conditions at Charnock .

Haslingden's  ( 1993-1997 ) best showing in the County Cup was a Semi Final appearance in 1995-96 , losing 4-2 at Preston Rangers ( now Fylde ) on November 19th , Rangers being two divisions higher at that time . In only the second final to be contested , Rangers would lose to Oldham Athletic in a 2-0 score line ...... St Helens had been the first ever holders of the Cup that is now entering it's 24th season this coming Sunday !

Previous Meetings  :  Chorley Versus Rossendale Ladies and Haslingden Ladies :

Fixtures between Chorley Ladies and Haslingden Ladies were once a common occurrence , but it has now been over twenty years since our two First Teams have met ! Sunday's visitors have no connection to the previous names of Rossendale ( 1975-1993 ) or Haslingden ( 1993-1997 ) and this season a new Haslingden were elected to the Lancashire County League Division One in it's third tier .

Formed in the early 1970's as Whitewell Ladies , the team played it's football in the old Three Counties League and the original North West Women's League , were they fast became a top class successful side .

The very first meeting between Chorley and Rossendale took place on October 21st 1984 in the First Round of the NWWL League Cup . Second Division side Chorley travelled to their high flying First Division opponents and were on the wrong end of a 13-0 hiding , with the lethal Cathy Brindle claiming four of the goals for our opponents .

In the years between 1987 and 1991 ten further meetings took place , in which a number of notable players facts were established for Chorley . Most outstanding was that Chorley's prolific striker Anne Stockdale scored in no less then eight of these meetings , including two well taken hat-tricks , one in a Pre Season Friendly played in Astley Village (3-1) during August 1987 and in the NWWRFL Division Two away win (5-3) from September 1990 .

On October 15th 1989 , Chorley's Kathy Knox scored her first ever goal for the club in a 2-1 home league defeat and Wendy Wright also scored her first ever Chorley goal in the 5-3 away league win during September 1990 .  In November 1990 , Kate Carlisle made her Chorley debut in our 5-2 home league defeat . Sixteen year old Kate had recently Captained Albany High School in their Lancashire Schoolgirls Challenge Cup Final victory (4-4 aet) following a tense penalty shoot-out .

The teams would not meet again until 1995-96 , by which time Rossendale had now become Haslingden Ladies . Chorley took the points in the home league encounter on October 24th , with a 3-1 win ( Debbie Sharrock 26 & 33 , Caz Crewdson 36 ) after Vanessa Hamlet (9 min) had given the visitors the lead . The corresponding away fixture on January 7th , saw Haslingden on top with a 4-1 win , Laura Fisher (42 min) with Chorley's consolation goal .  Interesting to note , that at this time , the Haslingden Team Colours were orange shirts and black shorts , the Chorley colours of today of course !

A further team known as Haslingden played in the NWWRFL North Division in 2015-16 for just one season , having been promoted from the Lancashire County League Division One as Runners Up in 2014-15 . Our Reserves , Chorley and Euxton Girls did actually play this team , losing 18 - 0 at home on October 6th 2013 and losing 1-0 away on Wednesday May 14th 2014 in the County League Division Two .... Haslingden being crowned Champions at the end of that season .

FAWPL  Plate Draw 2017-18 .

Chorley Ladies are one of only six teams to have been put into the Preliminary Round of the Plate Competition , which also involves fellow division side Hull City . Chorley will face South Yorkshire's Rotherham United ( FAWPL  Midlands Division One ) at home on Sunday September 24th , with a 2pm Kick Off . We last met Rotherham in the F.A. Cup Third Qualifying Round at home on November 11th 2012 winning 4-1 , with goals from Scarlet Smith (16 min) , Vicky Coope (18 & 29 min) and Carmen Troiano (89 min) .

Our records and programmes show that this will be the eighth occasion that the Football Association have used Prenton Park for a major Women's Football Match ..... our listing reads :
